Analisis Komunikasi Intrapersonal dan Self-Actualization Santiago pada Novel the Old Man and the Sea

Komunikasi intrapersonal adalah proses komunikasi internal yang membantu membentuk kesadaran dan makna dari pengalaman hidup individu. Salah satu bentuk komunikasi intrapersonal adalah self-talk, yang merupakan dialog batin individu untuk merespons situasi internal dan eksternal. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis berbagai bentuk komunikasi intrapersonal melalui self-talk dan menafsirkan bagaimana self-actualization ditunjukkan oleh tokoh Santiago dalam novel The Old Man and the Sea karya Ernest Hemingway. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan paradigma interpretatif dan metode analisis teks. Data bersumber dari edisi terjemahan bahasa Indonesia novel The Old Man and the Sea yang diterbitkan pada 2025, dan dianalisis melalui penyimakan teks, pencatatan data, pengelompokan berdasarkan kategori self-talk, serta interpretasi karakteristik self-actualization berdasarkan teori Abraham Maslow McLeod, 2025. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan empat bentuk self-talk, yaitu inner dialogue, spontaneous self-talk, goal-directed self-talk, dan mixed spontaneous and goal-directed organic self-talk, dengan dominasi goal-directed self-talk. Selain itu, ditemukan karakteristik self-actualization berupa problem-centered orientation, efficient perception of reality, acceptance of self, dan strong ethical and moral standards. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa self-actualization Santiago direpresentasikan sebagai proses kesadaran diri yang bersifat kontekstual dan reflektif, serta muncul secara organik dari kesadaran internal tokoh, bukan sebagai hasil intervensi eksternal.
